Artist Bio

John Montminy was born in Tilbury, Ontario in 1966.   He earned a BFA from the University of Windsor and an MFA from West Virginia University.  Montminy creates works that  juxtapose images, often with a wistful feel, pulled from popular culture.  These images interact to form a narrative full of archetypal signifiers. The use of nostalgic images and colours hearken back to so called “simpler times” when society held a false perception of the Canadian Dream.

Montminy had his first solo exhibition at East Tennessee State University at 23.  His work has been exhibited (and won awards) in Japan, Korea, the U.S.A and Canada.  He has long been involved with the Windsor Printmakers Forum as a member, contributing artist and past President.
